Club Family Day
Submitted by Riaz on 4 August, 2008 - 13:16.The Club Family Day and Gordon Hall 6-a-side that was unfortunately cancelled last year due to rain is due to be held on Sunday, August 24.
With the current unavailibility of a significant number of players we are contemplating changes from the 6-a-side format to 20/20 and also possibly the date. We are looking at a junior and senior 20/20 match with players made up from U/13 to U/17 in the junior match and all teams in the seniors. The matches will be played in coloured clothing with a white ball and all the normal 20/20 rules. read more »

England's greatest captain resigns
Submitted by Mr Angry on 3 August, 2008 - 19:22.It is with the greatest sadness that I report Michael Vaughan resigned as England captain today. We knew when he joined the club at 13 or so that he was destined for England and I for one have taken enormous pleasure watching him over the years since then. I saw him bat in the millennium test in Cape Town in 2000 and saw his last innings at Edgbaston on Friday. Only 17 but the class in those four 4s is incomparable.
As the saying goes form is temporary and class permanent. Am I alone in thinking that yet again third rate media types have weakened England cricket (ahead of the Ashes) through constant sniping? What is is about this country that tolerates the media's tendency so often to pick apart the country's successes, sporting and otherwise?

Junior Match Fees
Submitted by Riaz on 13 May, 2008 - 13:41.Junior match fees will increase from the current £5 to £7.50 as of 1 June 2008. This increase is less than the £10 which was passed at the AGM and affects juniors playing in all senior teams.

A MAN who fell and ended up wedged between a tree and a wall in Sheffield has been freed by firefighters.
The man, aged in his 50s, was walking along Queen Victoria Road, Totley, at around 11.30pm on Wednesday when he fell over a 3ft high wall and down a steep drop on the other side, ending up trapped behind a tree.
He is believed to have been there for almost two hours before a passer-by heard his cries for help and raised the alarm at 1am yesterday.
The man was taken to hospital for a check-up but is not believed to have been seriously hurt.

Mid Week Cricket
Submitted by sealy on 2 May, 2008 - 07:59.I have spoken to Riaz and offered to do the on field Captaincy duties when I am playing.
If anyone else fancies it shout now.
I do not have the capacity to do the admin or sorting the side out.
It would be a shame if all the hard work done by Tony Miller and Jason Pitcher to establish the Midweek side in the top division locally were wasted.
Can any other regulars contribute some time to this.

Sorry guys we need a new club secretary
Submitted by Waif on 27 February, 2008 - 13:31.As many of you will be aware, after 10 years as either Treasurer or Club Secretary I have resigned my position on the committee due to work and family commitments.
I have enjoyed my time on the committee and will continue to play when I can & will no doubt get involved in the running of the club at some time in the future when time allows, but for now that's it.
This does of course leave a vacancy on the committee which needs to be filled so if anyone is interested or knows someone who might be both interested & capable then please let me or Ibbo know. read more »
Suggested selection policy for Mansfield Sunday League
Submitted by Geoff on 26 February, 2008 - 20:44.We begin the new challenge of a sunday league on April 20th. The general idea of entering the competition was to provide more cricket, to put out a balanced club side and to provide opportunities for those not playing on a saturday. We would not expect people to want to play every Sunday
So how about this for a general selection policy?
1. 11 a side Cup and other league games take preference
2. The side should try to mix players from all sides
3. Those not selected on a saturday should get a game
4. If a saturday skipper believes a player needs a few overs or time in the middle they should get a game
5. Andy Wylie should bat no lower than 6
6. We should encourage a few budding skippers
