Due to bad weather conditions ALL District nets at Bawtry Rd have been cancelled . Please check website for any future cancellations.
Following a great win on the Saturday with youth celebrating long into the night with new found female company (hopefully not a sign of new priorities??), final home game against Warmsworth, who were pushing for promotion. On the main pitch was a nice end, but a damp wicket was not going to help anyone. Requiring just the 1 point for survival, the toss proved very important, but this is the where the day went...Simmo still as captain for the weekend tossed, and their vice-captain (captain not turned up yet) called correction, for the sixth time in a row this year!
On a warm summer's day the Academy travelled the short distance to Whitley Hall for a vital relegation showdown.
New Pavilion looking good. Rail positioned just at eye level not ideal for spectating but otherwise a credit to all those who have worked so hard to ensure it was built.
Toss won. Decided to bat on what proved to be a lively wicket. Credit then to Ben and Elliott Callis for negotiating the new ball. 26 for the first wicket. Tom Lister shot to 11 before a loose drive resulted in a controversial claim for a catch in the backward point region being given.

Collegiate 4th (231 - 4) Beat Parkhead 2nd(72 ao) by a shed load.
For the first time this season we were granted a fairly balanced side with more of the XI over 20 than under 15 and juniors who had played a few together.
Ollie quickly tested Geoff's ability to turn on a mud bath and got the result you would expect. He then perished up a chimney as he tried to turn one to leg. It's a shot he likes and a bit of practice getting over the ball will pay dividends. At the end Butterfingers Rooke and the Skip added another 30.
Part 1....Saturday, saw the academy away at Maltby in the 1st game of a double headed weekend, knowing 2 wins would make survival certain. With the skipper away at a 100th birthday (he looks good for that age!), Simmo was back in charge. Vice skipper Lister left in charge to sort transport, warm up and win the toss! Into the field on a windy cold day.
The 2009 season came to an end on the 5th team on Saturday, which saw us wave goodbye to the Yorkshire and Derbyshire division 4 after never really getting going. Despite some very good performances by individuals, and as a team, we never quite managed to get that all elusive win.
Apperknowle 2XI 177 ao(Lacey 3-45, Meshram 3-50, Shaw 2-29)
Sheff Collegiate 5XI 104ao (Lacey 25, Shaw 16, Rushworth 14)
With 1 game to go we are top of the table by one point and our final game is against Staveley who have failed to raise a game on two occasions this season. We were actually one of the few teams to complete a game on a rain affected Bank Holiday Sunday.
We arrived at third place Frecheville with only 3 sunday morning changes (including tea maker) and one absent player (thanks to Andy Udall for transporting Jonny at last minute and Jonny for playing but Benjy are you still in Naps???????) Many hangovers and we only had 4 players over 18.
Not my words, but those of the Master of Ceremonies to describe our Cup Final performance.
Firstly congratulations to Simmo on an excellent job as Skipper in my absence. I see a future in that.
President's Cup Final at Treeton. President leaves message on my answerphone. Confusion over start time. Well if we are aiming for a one o'clock start it is likely that the match will start then so no need to respond.
After 2 weeks of being rained off for this fixture, finally a hot sunny day at picturesque abbeydale on the main square. On a roll from a good win on the Saturday, stand in skipper lost this toss and we inserted to bat...would have batted 1st anyhow!
The Academy under temporary new captaincy whilst the skipper decided to go sun himself in Spain, were all sent a texts on Saturday morning, with the new meet time as the game was actually half an hour earlier than stated due to being August! Everyone there on time...the youth looking keen, Davey looking fresh faced, and Luke Bennett looking for his 1st victory of the year!
Stocksbridge 2XI 121-9 (Meshram 4-27, Woodward 2-9)
Sheffield Collegiate 5XI 84 ao (Lacey 24, Woodward 23)
The 5's hosted Stocksbridge 2's on possibly the first day of sunshine for 2 weeks.
Ben won the toss and bowled, with bowling being without doubt our strongest suit.
Prash then helped out the first of the Stocksbridge, by giving the opening batsman some help with an injury problem.
The midweek Massive arrived at the last game of the season, knowing a win would definitely keep them up...the tricky part was playing top of the league, Attock, who needed to win to retained the title! Knowing this, they’d brought a full strength team, from all over north of England!
Contrary to other reports on this site it rained constantly on Sunday morning. I was therefore somewhat surprised to see the under 15s playing in conditions that were arguably dangerous upon my arrival at HQ.
Still congratulations to Ollie and the team on their title success even if it meant our semi final pitch remained uncovered through several hours of rain.
Possibly the youngest Academy Eleven travelled to Clifton Lane to take on table toppers Rotherham Town on a refreshingly bright afternoon. Welcome back summer.
A combination of holidays, dinner parties and suspected swine flu(text message received at 10.30p.m on Friday Night) deprived us of three of the senior players from the Wath game. Add to that T being promoted to the firsts to replace the injured Josh(get well soon mate) and the age profile dipped considerably.
First outing on the main pitch for the Academy this season.
First game on main pitch for several seasons for some of us. No play the previous day due to rain. The strip a curious two tone either side of middle stump with one half greener than the other. Have a bowl.
Tickhill arrived with a stand in captain, ten men soon to be 12 and in slight disarray. Did they lull us in?
Toss lost. Half Hour and Jacques to open. T played the last pull shot of his career and skied one. Shot later consigned to back changing room in a career altering ceremony for our resident Villa fan.
Sheffield Collegiate Red v Eckington Sunday 26 July 2009
With the teams level on points going into this, the final match of the season, everyone was hoping for good weather. At 9.45 it was raining at Abbeydale, and it continued for another 45 minutes. It was not heavy enough to saturate the pitch though and when it stopped, it was agreed that a 15-over-per-side match could take place without risking the pitch for the 3rd XI cup match in the afternoon. The only stipulation was that if the rain restarted the match would be abandoned immediately, whatever the score.
Sheffield Collegiate suffered two defeats against Yorkshire Academy in 7 days, however the manner in which this happened could not have been more different.

SCCC 114 for 2 beat Millhouses 113 ao - 25 points.
A very welcome victory for the fourths which even raises the faint possibility of avoiding relegation.
3 games left for the massive....weather permitting, home game, good chance of a victory! Good by Crofty senior to get a wicket ready after rain past few days. Strong team fielded including an appearance from all 3 Root’s, Nads back in for a home game, and Riaz.
12 over’s agreed (just like every other week!), due to poor light and possible showers. Kashmir a weakened team with all 3 Javed’s, so feeling confident!
Football, Rugby, Fielding and Pyramids. A fine mixture of training methods on Thursday. Friday night and it looked like Breaststroke, rowing and canoeing would have been better preparation.
Cue one or two more wines than usual.
Saturday morning. Cracking the flags. Typical!
Meet at the Dale. Lime and soda. No Harry. Hello Harry where are you? Nobody told me I was playing. Get yourself down here sharpish Harry. This is not Sheffield Wednesday. Look at the website for details of selection. Fair play to Harry, arrived within ten minutes.
