Nets

Nets start on Thursday 31st January at Meadowhead School Sports Hall.

Time 8pm to 9.30pm

the booking runs for 12 weeks, taking us up to 17th April.

Jo Howe - Paddy's wife

Many of us who played cricket with Paddy for many years at Collegiate will be very sad to hear of the early death from cancer of Jo, Paddy's wife. Jo was a great, and very knowledgable, cricket supporter and Wednesdayite to boot! Her funeral is likely to be in early January. May she rest in peace.

Club AGM Wednesday 5th December Starting @ 6:30pm at Abbeydale

The AGM for Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club will take place at 6.30pm on Wednesday 5 December at Abbeydale Sports Club in the main function room & all members are welcome.

The AGM is expected to close around 7:30pm following which supper will be served. If you wish to have a supper, please contact me or reply to this post so that I can advise the Sports Club of the numbers attending. The meal will be a very reasonable £10.00 per head.  read more »

Peace Breaks Out

Following negotiations headed up by Kofi Annan, U Thant, Dr. Henry Kissinger and the Dalai Lama agreement has been reached between the Yorkshire League, the SYL and the Y&DL.

From 2008 onwards all games in which Gandalf, Fabrizio and Glayerobe are playing will be on the main ground at Abbeydale, home and away (at home). SYL Premier will play away (at home) on the bottom pitch at HSBC subject to the new fence being tested (this will prevent Bully careering onto the road in his follow through.) YL fixtures will all be at Barnsley following a new ground share deal and the top pitch at Abbeydale will be used to raise a rice crop between May and September. Proceeds from this will be used to offset the funds owed by Langers and Notfilth.

Players' dinner Saturday 1 December 2007

After last Friday's rather poorly attended end of season dinner an alternative dinner has been organised for Saturday 1 December 2007 at La Mancha on West St. Proceedings will start at about 5.30pm and there will be a set menu which Nadeem will organise.

Please state here whether you will be attending. Speeches by the team captains followed by sauce in various salubrious and less salubrious watering holes in town.

All welcome.

New thread

I'm starting this for the Old Salfordian. I'm wondering if he has a short attention span???

He certainly hates old chesnuts like Streety and Pre-merger banter, although he can regale one with ancient glories of a Stretfordian nature.

As a Coventry fan Langers needs to stand Jonesy a fine bottle if he turns up on the 5th

Money, Money, Money

In arrears? Played but not paid?

Are you a tightwad?

Have you forgotten the address and phone number of your bank?

Do you simply expect other folk to subsidise your membership?

Do you think subs and match fees are just for those stupid enough to have a sense of common decency?

Have you been getting away with it for so long you have no sense of obligation?

Well whatever the reason your name will appear below quite soon unless you square it with Mr. Wylie. Failing that you could bribe me to delete all posts naming and shaming you.

Dismantling nets and Twenty20

Owing to, in the end, a lack of numbers, 8 (average age 49 3/4) in fact, the Twenty20 shoot out for the two YD/Mansfield teams was cancelled. A real shame as a nice day and I was looking forward to it. I expect the fact that is was after the end-of-year work party to dismantle nets/sightscreen had something to do with it. So the sock money (£480 and change) was begging, and so the 8 of us had a great roast at Hassop Hall and some nice wine. Excellent place for lunch, £30.45 per head + wine etc., and the lack of numbers suddenly didn't seem to matter as we mellowed over a little port later on. Thanks for all the fines money chaps, shame you weren't there. There's enough left for two bottles at Baldwin's for the EOY dinner, 5 October, 7.30.

Team Academy Secure Promotion

The 3rd xi Academy and a few older and wiser cricketers have secured promotion to Division 1 of The South Yorkshire League with a ten wicket win over Thorpe Hesley.

Thorpe Hesley 73 All Out Chairman 4-8, Hancock 2-10 Miller 2-30 Varley 2-0 2 balls
SCCC 78-0 Oscar 66* Coulton 6*

You cannot please everyone and yet within the club some members are discrediting what we have acheived..yet there own season has been particularly poor in a league that is far worse than the SYL..

Enough of that Hamps had a three year plan and its finally paid off...Lost the toss and asked to field again.  read more »

Another bizarre Y&DL decision

We now have to say which ground we will play on before the fixtures are agreed !!!!!

Following submissions by Messrs Ibbotson and Longley of Sheffield Collegiate CC (SCCC) made at an Appeal hearing on Thursday 6th September 2007 at De La Salle CC, the League Management Committee (LMC) have arrived at the following decision:  read more »

THIS SUNDAY - 20/20 / CLEARING UP / ASHFORD

The ground is ours all day on Sunday.
Andrew's annual game at Ashford starts at 1pm.

I suggest as many as possible are at the ground by 10.30.
This record attendance will mean we can do the clearing up by 12.

The team for Ashford posted by Andrew can then leave for their game.
The remainder can then play 20/20 until about 3 followed by beer and food.

Depending on equipment needed to enable 20/20 some final clearing may be needed after game.

Please leave your availability below for these events or communicate directly with Andrew and Geoff (20/20 supremo). Don't expect to be selected for 20/20 unless you turn up and do a reasonable amount of clearing up.

Geoff will need to liaise with Karl re: pitch.

Well,what did you expect?

Just as the 4ths League season was derailed by matters beyond their control, so with the Cup Final.

Last week 120 for 1 with 18 overs left and then it rained. This week with the venue switched to a seaming swinging Hathersage we were bowled out for 79 by Calver. Some so called battists do need to work on their defensive technique this winter (it is hardly the first time we have been cheaply skittled) well as the Calver lads bowled.

After an excellent tea which we were hardly in the mood to appreciate, we ran it close but not quite close enough. Lobber and Angry (2 each) and Markodad (4fer)saw Calver struggle over the line at 80 for 8 to win their second final in 4 consecutive appearances.

Thanks to the many who came down to support...at least you didn't see us bat.
