The Usual Suspects – All 35 of them

By my reckoning 35 players represented the Academy this season. Please shout up if you have been overlooked. Here is my take on to the individuals concerned. Don’t look now if easily offended!

Andy Simpson, The Optician. An able Vice Captain. I think that is how Nina described him! He has been invaluable as a relatively senior player (26!). Despite having to work Saturday mornings he has always arrived on time and for the early part of the season performed the duties of Treasurer with an efficiency that Malcolm Glazer would admire.

Academy Survival Weekend…part 1!

Part 1….Saturday, saw the academy away at Maltby in the 1st game of a double headed weekend, knowing 2 wins would make survival certain. With the skipper away at a 100th birthday (he looks good for that age!), Simmo was back in charge. Vice skipper Lister left in charge to sort transport, warm up and win the toss! Into the field on a windy cold day.

After a routine win over Maltby in the morning collegaite travelled to Treeton to play in the 6’s. The manager going via Abbeydale to collect Tom Hancock exhausted after a weekend on the Duke of Edingburgh award scheme.
Our group was made up with Whiston, Shiregreen and sheffield united. We started against Whiston and some familiar faces from the district nets were on view. We started with James Harrison left out of the squad of seven.

Maltby under 15 v Sccc blue u15

Sheffield Collegiate 144-6 (Pickford 27, Mines 26)
Maltby 38all out 10overs (Mines 3-15)

Collegiate went into this match as strong favourites having bowled Maltby for 32 last time. The blues opened with Callis and James Harrison. They started well hitting 4s on a long boundry. Callis was looking good until he hit a full toss straight to deep backward square(12). In came chris Pickford who played his normall confident style from ball one. Harrison was playing the more ancor role and was doing a very good job until missing a straight one (20). 60-2. Chris then got going and

Miners beat Minors

Mid summer and due to the Under Seventeens being in cup action only 4 Academy players attended nets, one of them late as he had to take the first team kit to Bawtry Rd as they had forgotten it.

5 Academy Players were in the under 17s game, one of them playing for Hallam!! I won’t name names but he is in line to be the next James Bond!

As an aside there were 3 other players practising from three teams in relegation slots.

SCCC U17’s v Maltby U17’s

Sheffield Collegiate CC U17’s v Maltby U17’s 9th June 2009

Maltby 68 for 7
SCCC 69 for 2

A game that looked off from Sunday but the rain held off so I arrived at the top pitch to set things up. After opening the door to the pavilion the sight that greeted me was a hole in the new section of wall, is it me but why does this happen to be fair this could have been an accident but all the same I am sure our homes don’t have holes like this in them so why the pavilion!!
