By my reckoning 35 players represented the Academy this season. Please shout up if you have been overlooked. Here is my take on to the individuals concerned. Don’t look now if easily offended!
Andy Simpson, The Optician. An able Vice Captain. I think that is how Nina described him! He has been invaluable as a relatively senior player (26!). Despite having to work Saturday mornings he has always arrived on time and for the early part of the season performed the duties of Treasurer with an efficiency that Malcolm Glazer would admire.Read more
Following a great win on the Saturday with youth celebrating long into the night with new found female company (hopefully not a sign of new priorities??), final home game against Warmsworth, who were pushing for promotion. On the main pitch was a nice end, but a damp wicket was not going to help anyone. Requiring just the 1 point for survival, the toss proved very important, but this is the where the day went…Simmo still as captain for the weekend tossed, and their vice-captain (captain not turned up yet) called correction, for the sixth time in a row this year!Read more
Saturday represents a sad occasion in our recent history as we bid farewell to one of our most successful players of recent times as well as a Treasurer and a top bloke.
My two year stint as First Eleven Captain has been described as the club’s “Doldrum Years”. However, I would like to think that one or two good things came to pass and the signing of “Wyles” was certainly one of the highlights for me.
I had heard of the name Wylie as a certain John Wylie, schoolteacher from Aigburth (couldn’t bring myself to mention the L word) had during his stint as Manager of Lancashire Under 11s coached my younger brother.
Of good stock and used to playing on the County Ground at Aigburth. Where better therefore to make your Collegiate debut than Stocksbridge! Anyway he took 8 for 12 and Ian Howe advised me that it might be worth seeing if he fancied changing his mind and staying with us for the summer rather than just the University term.
You have much to answer for Howie!Read more
Excellent practice on Thursday. Out in the middle until gone 9. Thanks Blade, Ri and Crofty. You guys can take some of the credit for the seven well earned points achieved by the Academy on Saturday. Some but not all. Read on.
On an overcast, humid day at Warmsworth the Academy gave a performance which demonstrated exactly why the club is investing so much time and effort in encouraging junior cricket.Read more

The 5ths travelled to De La Salle to take on their second team with minimal alterations to the team we started the week with, which makes a pleasant change!
We won the toss and looking at a firm dry pitch and sunny conditions I decided a change of approach to last year was needed and opted to bat, perhaps not my best decision!
Although we were easily beaten by the hot favourites to win the league we showed some positive signs moving forward.
