Rooty's ton sets up convincing victory

A magnificent 106 from senior Root and excellent knocks from Mike Simpson and Macca were the basis of a convincing win at home to Thorncliffe. SCCC 296 for 6. Thorncliffe 106 all out. Score card"

After a run in with our groundsman who wanted us to call the game off despite having a rock-hard wicket and blue skies in order to protect his square," we were inserted.

Mike Simpson and Walton opened the batting and Simmo unleashed a nu8mber of mighty hits to destroy the plans of Thorncliffe and get us off to a flyer. Danny departed for 10 and I followed soona fter for 5. Simmo continue to bludgeon his way to an excellent 75 before being vcaught with the score on 97! This brought Macca and Matt Root to the crease and they showed their class in an excellent partnership of 185. Rooty made a great 106 whilst Macca made 87. Nadeem, having watched the action with his pads on for 37 overs skied one to long on off his 2nd ball and went for a blob! Our innings finished on 296 with a four from the Lord off his only ball after being very close to being timed out.

Tea was....... a typical Abbeydale Tea.

We ataked from the start with Wyles and Bully (with the vocal backing of the Northern Bank jeers) on good form. The slips found amusement in coming up with words that included the word Bull in them. As a consequence, our opening bowler was given numerous nicknames including 'dozer,' horri,' 'Cilla' and 'sh*t.' Between them they removed the top 5 batsmen in a very good opening spell. Nad came on and compounded his great day with a none-fer and T bolwed a tidy spell to take 2 for 35. Bully and Wyles came up to clean the tail up after a break for rain. Bully finishing with 4 for 27 and Wyles 3 for 34.

The fact that we beat Thorncliffe so convincingly was testament to the progress we have made this year. Previous years may have seen us gain a winning draw or scrape a win against the bottom side but we were better in all departments and can take an awful lot out of the game.
