SCCC C.Ash in
Bradfield 177-8(R.Tasker 3-64, Ibbo 3-36)
SCCC 181-7(Ash 45*)
A victory which should, especially in light of results elsewhere, ensure promotion to the Premier Div next season. A hard fought 5 points against one of the division's better attacks on a very slow, damp pudding of a wicket.Although Ibbo still contrived to lose the toss, Bradfield elected to bat.
Lobber grunted his way through a 12 over stint and became a little tired towards the end appearing to glaze over at the mention of bus lanes. SLP was a paragon of accuracy only dropping short when he tripped over his prayer mat. Due to the damp conditions it wasn't a spinner's wicket so Filth replaced SLP & remained on for the rest of the innings. He bowled well within himself which is more than can be said for his other physical pursuits. Ibbo picked up 3 wickets at the end when the Bradfield batsmen decided it was 6-or-out time. Our fielding was enhanced when the bloke off the Milk Tray adverts turned up to support, fresh from a 2 week delivery in Italy. Just shows how low the cloud cover was because we didn't even see him jump from his chopper.
In response Rooty & Ross took us to 30-odd before Ross was plumb caught behind off his pad (which the umpire later apologised for). The Colonel played some exquisite shots placed with military precision only for 4 quick wickets to fall (Rooty,Glug,Filth and DV)to put us at 90-5. Ashy, supposedly not out throughout August, came to the fore and ably supported by Lord (20,although Ashy clearly was awarded some of my runs, received a shocking lbw decision, which the umpire did not apologise for!) and Doris (10) took the total to 160.
At the end we needed 8 off the last 2 overs. Ashy took 8 off the penultimate over and SLP smashed a wristy cover drive for 4 which was reminiscent of Miandad at his peak.4 games to go,10 points clear of 2nd and 14 of 3rd. But still to play the teams in 2nd, 3rd and 4th spots. Game on!
