Calver 120 (33 overs, Lomas 7-33); SCCC 4ths 122-8. Full points, win by 2 wickets.
Nice day right up until driving to meet at Abbeydale, when it started to rain. Crowded with 10 year old rugby players being fed chocolate fountain coated fudge sticks so nutrition has clearly changed since I was 10. Jonesy turned his phone on for the first time since Wednesday to find that actually the chairman couldn't play, so he swiped one of ours. Communication lads!
I'll finish this report later when I've seen the scorecard.
Leips won the toss and put them in, and also put the pads on and carried the towel out. He got away with putting them in but efforts to chuck the towel on it not so good..
Angry managed to land a few and plenty of seamage. Leips decided to show off and stood up, only to drop the edge next ball but 1. Get back Leips. Same batsman then knocks case off ball next over, caught, and Leips calls him back. Consternation especially as the bat splinters were all over the pitch. Same batsman got another 20 or so and it was only after the game we found his name was also Leiper.
Lobber had generously offered Angry the down hill end. A fact not unconnected with his difficulties on this ground 2 years ago. However he bowled really well with new model run up. Off 4 paces or so back footed Angry first ball who dozed at square while batsman clubbed long hop more or less through his legs. Soon found length and direction though. Lobbers appeals on one knee looked rather as though he was being knighted.
Calver seemed in too much of a hurry and subsided to 120 in 33 overs.

Tariq flayed and missed a dozen and then connected. The tall nets on the side (see Google pic) weren't tall enough and the next Google overhead image will show a hole in the roof of house to top left. Another over a wall behind the pavillion. Several more 4s got us in a good position and when T went Gravy took over for a while before hitting a full toss straight to a fielder. Leips looked good, but only in a batting sense, and only slightly so. A blind spectator remarked he was the only one looking like an athlete out there.
Early season lack of concentration kicked in and in the end 120 looked only 10 short rather than 50. Lobber got a shocker and Angry was shocking. Fortunately the younger players got a grip and we won by two wickets, and so are top of the league!
First fines session of the year, with a float of £200 no less.
Next week home game at Grindleford. Hate to be worn. Train timetable from Dore being investigated and possibly breakfast taken at the station. Return fare £2.70
