SCCC Sunday side 325 for 6 (W Root 111, A Simpson 99); Duffield 118-5 Result zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Bizzarly this win by 207 runs in a 40 over game counts as a draw.
Simmo avoided a massive fine by winning the toss and batting. Duffield did not look the side they did last year and runs from Patmore and Root the youngest soon flowed. Patmore and Mike Simpson departed and then plenty of bottom hand from Simmo in particular (8 sixes) and Billy Root caused Duffield to droop. Simmo turned down an easy second on 98 and was promptly out for 99. Billy Root continued on to a convincing 111 in front of parents who therefore owe two jugs (one each). But not that read wine they were drinking, which on begging a slurp to wash down the ibuprofen removed my teeth enamel.
The points system makes it hard to declare in this league and 325 always looked tricky and even more so when Angry and Benjy both found good lines to reduce Duffield to 4-4 after 8 overs.
Someone called Bakel had no home to go to and blocked it for the rest of the afternoon and even a Patmore over of holy hand grenades failed to dislodge him. Last ball, big excitement. Duffield needed 2 to get some points, Bakel facing, Duffield yelled instructions from side (abridged here but to the effect that a 2 would be helpful), and he blocked it to death. Surreal.
I gather Sealy did some cleaning on Saturday and I did a smidge on Sunday in the visitors room. All the mess from the rugby teams (and there is forensic evidence) can be cleaned up with only moderate effort but one might have expected either the rugby club (or the club, not sure of the position there) to have done it. The smashed tiles, hole in the floor, broken showers, and kicked-in walls are harder to do and require expenditure. Exactly what sort of houses do the rugby players live in?
