Three wins out of four fixtures looks like the minimum needed to avoid relegation so this win at Stocksbridge was more than welcome.
After a long and reasoned debate we agreed to start at 3 playing 31 overs and by then the pitch was just about fit. We were put in and the 2 Bens, Rooke and Fielding, got us off to a wonderful start. Soon ticking over at fives they put the over confident opposition on the back foot. They reached the mid 70s before better bowling pegged them back a little and the rate dropped. Ben F completed his 50 before Rooke holed out for a well constructed 30. Attempting to up the rate Webbo, Dad and Lad Varley and Ben F all departed quickly. Only Angry managed to reach 20 well supported for a while by Connor Shelley. We finished on 132 for 8, well pleased.
A brilliant catch at the start of the third over by Ben F at point set the standard for some good fielding, led by Josh Pearson and Rob Priestley, which backed up decent bowling throughout. Having said that there was a bit of a "finishing school" element to Ben F's spell.
"You need another on the leg side Ben."
"But he's taking them from middle and off."
Never learnt about that in Hamps Academy.
Three each for Ben and Angry were backed up by Dr. Varley who had to buy his and our last wicket as their skipper launched a final, vain, assault.
