a MASSIVE drop

Following a run of 3 weeks now with points...best for several years, another nice day meant rain couldn’t affect the points again, a trickier game away at Sheffield Friends on the picturesque Norton Oakes ground.
Having text more than half the club to get 11 players out this week, with majority saying “not available”, some with no reason, others in Wales, and 1 angry looking 5th teamer opting to go Salsa dancing instead.
Batting 1st as away, 12 over match, short term overseas signing Rich Tasker opened the batting with reliable Albert. Good start, Albert kept score ticking, overseas playing more expansive game. Rich out 1st, caught behind off off-spinner (who threw a good quicker ball down too!). In stepped Danny Walton, little did we know now how important Danny would prove to the game! Score ticking over in 1’s, heading up towards 120 in the 12 over’s, average score. Albert played 1 shot too many to be bowled, changed in batting order, Simmo in for some bottom hand, joined soon by Crofty to see last 3 over’s out with cow corner looking in danger now! Crofty played the inside edge to fine leg so well, even when he missed the ball, Ump’s still gave him 4 for it! Simmo hitting last over for 20odd, total up 148 off 12 over’s...above par score!
Out in the field, minus 3 1st teamers from last week, opened up with Will Lacey, like last week, he bowled steady again for little reward, good job Le Chey! All-rounder Crofty started from the pavilion end, with a few looseners and odd boundary, he then knocked over the stumps with a surprise straight one! This brought out the man everyone had come to watch bat, Jhonny Younis, good 1st cherry by Crofty...sliced towards point...Walton 2 hands on it...and down it went! This then proved to be costly. The other opener smashed his was to 50 odd then bowled by Fiddles who replaced Crofty. Jhonny then started to pick us off, run rate about even so touch and go as it went on, Fiddles got another stumped by Albert, and caught a good 1 at long on off T! Jhonny then got to his 50 by hitting Fiddles over the roof 2 balls in a row, then picked off T twice through the covers to end the game with an over to go, ending on 62 not out.
A good effort chaps, against a strong team...some expert throwing by the senior pro overseas, and good effort in the field.
Not to blame anyone...but Mr Walton might want to keep his head down for a short time!
Thanks to Wedgie and Ben for making their midweek debuts, sorry you guys didn’t get a bat or bowl!
