Alex Moore and Matt Tyas were selected to play for a South Yorkshire U11 team against North Yorkshire following some good displays at the District winter nets. Both turned up smartly in their shirts and ties for the match at Beverley Cricket Club on Bank holiday Monday.

North Yorkshire batted first and and quickly started to knock the ball all round the ground. However Alex came on first change and soon restored some order with his usual accurate bowling and completed three good overs. Matt followed with three further good overs from the same end and the run rate started to tumble.

All the team fielded well and both Collegiate boys were rewarded with second spells at the death with two more overs each, both bowling a maiden to help restrict North Yorkshrie to 120 from the 35 overs.

In the interst of fairness South Yorkshire then decided that all the boys who had not bowled should bat high up the order but with North Yorkshire having two excellent opening bowlers they soon started taking wickets and the South slumped to 25 for 5. The ship was steadied by Matt Tyas and Dan McLean from Whitley Hall who were playing some nice straight shots and picking up ones and two's until Dan called for a suicidal single that left Matt run out by about 6 yards. Another wicket fell quickly to leave South 46 for 8 when Alex Moore strode confidently to the wicket. Alex made a mockery of his No 11 position in the order smashing a qucik fire top score of 36. He hit fours to all parts of the ground and when the quick opening bowlers came back on the ball just went even quicker to the boundary. Alex was well supported by the Souths keeper from Barnsley who made 33 and from a hoepless position they took the score to 108 before Alex was given out LBW to one that looked like it was sliding down the legside. The innings then petered out for 114.

A good game on a cold and wet day that was not conducive for good cricket. Our boys looked very comfortable at this level and represented Collegiate very strongly.
