The 2009 season came to an end on the 5th team on Saturday, which saw us wave goodbye to the Yorkshire and Derbyshire division 4 after never really getting going. Despite some very good performances by individuals, and as a team, we never quite managed to get that all elusive win.
Apperknowle 2XI 177 ao(Lacey 3-45, Meshram 3-50, Shaw 2-29)
Sheff Collegiate 5XI 104ao (Lacey 25, Shaw 16, Rushworth 14)
We turned up at Apperknowle, to find that reports of a slope were infact true, and also to find that it was incredibly cold. After we had all dug out our full sheep's, and Ben had lost the toss, we took to the field.
Things didn't start well, Stefan's first over going for 14, resulting in his sacking. He was replaced by Matt Moroney, who bowled his spell very well, keeping tight but not taking wickets. Prash meanwhile was bowling fairly well at the other end, but also not taking wickets. After 10 overs the score was 70 without loss, with the Apperknowle opener racing to 50.
Lacey replaced Prash, and his first over went for 2, and at the other end, Picko replaced Moroney, whose first over went for 4. A breakthrough finally came in the next over, Lacey bowling the opener, as he tried to hoik over mid wicket. Lacey then struck again in the next over, trapping the number 3 on his stumps LBW with a quicker ball, and he struck again in the over before drinks with another LBW, 90-3 at drinks.
Picko struck in the over after lunch, taking the score to 90-4 by bowling the other openener. Lacey and Picko both finished off spells, before Shaw and Prash replaced them. Prash then struck twice in the same over, taking the score 154-4 to 156-6, first bowling the number 5, then the number 6 spooned a ball up to Ed Rushworth at cover. This was soon followed by 2 wickets for shaw, numbers 7 and 8 both holing out to long on to Pete Lister, with 2 top class catches, one involving the slowest fall and roll ever!! 165-8. Moroney the struck, number 10 caught behind, then Prash finished off with a slower ball doing for the number 11 as he spooned to Ben Shaw at cover 177 all out, and 6 overs gained.

After tea, including battenburg, Rushworth and Lister opened up. Lister was first to go, bowled for 2, 7-1. Lacey came in at 3 and stuck around, him and Rushworth putting on 19, including Rushworth seeing off the opening bowler with three 4's in one over. The new bowler did no better, Lacey crashing two 4' off him, before Rushworth was bowled for 14. Moroney was bowled for 0 leaving the score at 32-3. Lacey and Sides put on another 27, including another 4 and a big 6 out of the ground by Lacey, and plenty of quick running between the wickets. Sides was next to go, bowled for 12, followed soon after by Lacey, caught at Mid-off for 25, 59-5.
Udall came in, hitting 3 scoring shots in his 11, on e 6, a four and a single, but it was Woodward who went next, bowled for 2. In came Shaw, who got off the mark with a 6, which saw the chasing fielder end up arse over tit and face-planting in an attempt to catch the ball. Udall went next, caught at Mid-off for 11. In came Garse with Kahuna. He crashed a 4 throught the covers, before a few balls later being brilliantly caught at cover for 4, 93-8. Picko came in and stuck around a while, letting Shaw score the runs, but he eventually went, bowled for 1. In came Prash, clubbing shots back over the bowlers head, before being caught at mid-on for 2, leaving Shaw not out for a very good 16.
Better luck next season lads, we don't like mid-table boring, so with no relegation spot to contend for, promotion it is.
