We arrived at appleby frodingham with a mix of experience and inexperience ahead of a 5th vs 6th game in the Yorkshire league.
Dicko won the toss and inserted them in to bat and this proved an inspired decision as jase prized their number 2 batsmen into a huge swing and it flew off the edge of the bat staright to Albie.
Then frod had a frustrating partenership of 87 which took the wind out of our sails for a while we were not helping our cause with a few chances going down ,but finally we broke the partenership when jase again forced the number 3 to edge behind to the safe hands of Albert.
Then they built another partnership of 40 before dicko enticed the batsmen out of crease to be smartly stumped by Albie. Then there inexperience started to show as there younger contingent lost their concentration and succumbed to a brilliant spell of spin bowling by dicko who took wickets at regular intervals to stop them posting an imposing score,Streety has to be mentioned because he bowled 14 very good overs but it wasnt his day as at least half a dozen mistimed shots landed safe.
As we got in too the last 10 overs there wickets continued to tumble with great support in the outfield by the ever green blade taking two very good catches to stop anypatrenrships being built.Jase and Dicko finished the innings off each taking important wickets helping them be restricted to 189 for 8 Dicko 10 overs 1 maiden 44 runs for 5 wickets and jase 14 overs 2 maidens 3 for 32.
After tea Blade and Albert opened up our run chase. They both batted very sensibly and maturely and were slowly but surely building a very good partenership and albie brought up his very accomplished 50 off 71 balls crashing 8 fours in the process while blade was just anchoring the innings knowing that we only needed a modest 3 and a half an over and they both looked extremly comfortable. But eventually the opening stand was broken as blade was caught and bowled for 45 that was his very important contribution to the 125 run stand they had put on to put us in a very commanding position.
In next was charlie wall who put on 22 with albert before the latter was caught behind again to the off spinner.Next in was ed mckenna and he and wally steadied any signs of a wobble with a very steady important partnership which saw us home with wally haitting the winning runs in spectacular fashion by crashing the ball over the bowlers head for 6. Charlie finished 41 n.o and mckenna finished 16 n.o and that was another 6 points on to the collegiate tally and we finished the day as we started it in 5th place looking to push up the table in the coming weeks with scarborough our next opponents at abbeydale next saturday.
