Along with the launch of Michael Vaughan's book, this makes for a very good few weeks for the club.

The tour party departs from Manchester on the 22nd October and will return on the 10th November. The tour will consist of 12 matches of varying formats and will take in four cities. It will start in Mumbai before moving to Pune and Bangalore, where the India-Australia match is currently being played, and will end in the seaside resort of Goa.

Club Family Day

The Club Family Day and Gordon Hall 6-a-side that was unfortunately cancelled last year due to rain is due to be held on Sunday, August 24.

With the current unavailibility of a significant number of players we are contemplating changes from the 6-a-side format to 20/20 and also possibly the date. We are looking at a junior and senior 20/20 match with players made up from U/13 to U/17 in the junior match and all teams in the seniors. The matches will be played in coloured clothing with a white ball and all the normal 20/20 rules.

Brave 13's cup run comes to an end

S.C.C.C 64 All Out
Wakefield Thornes 67-3

On Sunday morning the under 13 looked to carry on their fine cup run with a trip to Hartshead Moor Cricket Club to play Wakefield Thornes.

After losing the toss we were asked to have a bat on a decent looking pitch. However we didnt make good use of it. Alex Thomas was brilliantly stumped after a legside take and Chris Pickford was run out and we slumped to 3-2. James Harrison and Elliot Calis got a bit of control back but wickets fell at a regular occurrence. Some good bowling backed up with good fielding made it hard to score which led to pressure and resulted in some poor shot selection. We managed to scrape to 64 all out. Wakefield made it really hard to score and kept the extras down.

Under 13's somehow win epic Semi-Final

S.C.C.C 95-4
Doncaster Town 94-8 (Gibson 30*)

Sundays cancelled cup Semi-Final was moved to Abbeydale and was played on Tuesday night.

Captain Elliot Winter lost the toss and we were asked to bat on a wet and green wicket.

A steady start from Openers Alex Thomas and Elliot Callis until both men fell playing lazy shots. At the half way point Chirs Pickford (22) and James Harrison (13) carried us to 50 and looked good, playing shots all around the ground, until both were dismissed. Jack Lister (21*) and Levi Atherton (8) got us up to 95 which was probably 20 less than we should have got. In fairness Doncaster bowled very well at the death.

Mentone Grammar beat Academy XI

On a damp morning at Abbeydale the first ever SCCC Academy XI played Mentone Grammar School, a touring side from Melbourne, Australia.

We won the toss and put Mentone in to bat a decision quickly vindicated after the opening partnership of Chris Pickford and Rob Shaw reduced Mentone to 18 – 2, Rob picking up both of the wickets, the second of which a fantastic catch by Josh Jones at second slip.
Josh then came on to replace Chris and bowled two overs picking up a wicket with an absolute jaffa sending off pole flying. Then Josh who had come in to the game with a back niggle felt a twinge so was taken out of the attack and was replaced by Jack Lister.
