Congratulations to Richard Kettleborough on his promotion to the International Umpires Panel. We wish him all the best. Congratulations also to Joe Root for winning the Man of the Series award on the recent England U/19 tour of Bangladesh. Collegiate U11s Shine at District Cricket 2009

We had a strong representation from our Under 11s at District level this season. Lexi Moore, Matt Tyas, Dan Priestley and Brad Jones all contributed with bat and ball during the 5 games played. Brad and Lexi put on strong performances with the bat and enjoyed two partnerships of over 100 and 80 against Halifax and Huddersfield. Brad finished the 5 games with an everage of 64 after three knocks of over 50. Lexi averaged over 30 during the 5 games including a top score of 46. Matt, Lexi and Dan all bowled tightly collecting several wickets throughout the games.

Four in a row

A cool and breezy evening on the main square saw the U11 Green team make it four wins out of four on Monday.
After a shaky start in the field Collegiate soon settled and some excellent bowling from Jim Pollard and Josh White restricted Whiston to a score of 249. The boys then batted solidly, giving only two wickets up to finish comfortable winners with 276 runs on the board.
Thanks to Kam for all his help with the lads and thanks to the Parents for sticking it out in the cold weather.

U/11 Blue win thriller

Collegiate Blue 249-4
Whitley Hall 243-4

This keenly anticipated contest went right down to the wire on Monday night with the Blue team delighted to topple the favourites for this division.

Collegiate made a confident start with the in form Alex Moore (12) and partner Max Jones posting a partnership of 18. Brad Jones (19) then dominated a partnership with his little buddy Ravi to take the score to 237 at the half way stage.

Junior District Players

Alex Moore and Matt Tyas were selected to play for a South Yorkshire U11 team against North Yorkshire following some good displays at the District winter nets. Both turned up smartly in their shirts and ties for the match at Beverley Cricket Club on Bank holiday Monday.

North Yorkshire batted first and and quickly started to knock the ball all round the ground. However Alex came on first change and soon restored some order with his usual accurate bowling and completed three good overs. Matt followed with three further good overs from the same end and the run rate started to tumble.

Rain doesn’t always stop play……………

In November-esque conditions on the top pitch at Abbeydale, the Under 11 Green team ran out comfortable winners against a young but nevertheless enthusiastic Frechville team.

A fine effort from the Collegiate bowlers held Frechville to 244, losing 4 wickets along the way but remarkably only 12 runs came from the bat. Constant drizzle gave a very slippery ball and accounted for 26 extras at 2 runs a piece. Ben Dockrill was the pick with 3-4 from his 2 overs.

U/11 Yellow against Eckington

A lovely evening in the grounds of Renishaw Hall was the setting of a very good performance by the young U/11 yellow squad against the seeded and an experienced Eckington team.

The batting by the yellows was encouraging , with all of them holding their own and most getting on the scoring sheet. At the end of the innings, the yellows had made 249 for the loss three wickets, giving a total score of 234.

The bowling again was promising, with a few wide’s and no balls, but Harry Ashton and Tom Codling also took a wicket each to keep the Eckington total score to 266.

This all bodes very well for the future. Both Coach and Manager were very pleased with the overall performance, and felt that the boys did an excellent job against a very good Eckington team.

U/11 Green win comfortably

Collegiate Green U/11 - 253
Aston Hall U/11 227

The U/11 Green team had a comfortable win against Aston Hall on the top pitch. The team, which has no coach or manager at the moment, were incredibly enthusiastic and this translated into a good team win.

Bowling first they restricted the opposition to 227 through disciplined bowling with only 4 wides in the entire innings. This was backed up by good fielding meaning Aston Hall lost 8 wickets with the best bowlers on the day being Simon Deutsch with figures of 3/4 and Joe Pickford 2/1.

In reply we only lost two wickets with all 4 pairs contributing to the score. Every batsmen kept things simple by hitting the bad ball and blocking the good ones and the running between the wickets was excellent for such a young side.

Many thanks to Alex Patmore for agreeing to umpire and score at short notice and to Andy Pickford for volunteering to manage the team for the season.

U/11 Blue off to winning start

Collegiate Blue U/11 274
Thorncliffe U/11 190

The Under 11 Blue team made a strong start to the season against a young Thorncliffe side. All four pairs batted well and we only lost 4 wickets in total. The match was played with a virtually full sized mens boundary which meant that there were only two boundaries struck all night. However the boys ran very well between the wicket even picking up singles to the keeper on occasions. 274 was a very good score in the circumstances.

The team also fielded and bowled very well.Captain Matt Tyas set some good close fields which stopped Thorncliffe getting many singles and with all the bowlers bowling straight and accurate Thorncliffe never looked like getting close. There were several run outs and many more near misses with some excellent backing up.

There was lots of encouragement by all the fielders and this was a very good all round display.

The team have set the standard now and everyone should be looking forward to a most enjoyable season.
