Warm weather welcomed a packed fixture list this weekend. A slightly disappointing set of results on Saturday was soon forgotten with a good ECB National Knockout win on Sunday.
On Saturday our 1st XI travelled to Barnsley. A good bowling performance spread around 8 bowlers restricted Barnsley to 208-7 from 50 overs, despite a powerful century by their overseas. Unfortunately we could not back it up with the bat, being bowled out for 124.
Our 2nd XI hosted Tickhill at Abbeydale. Another poor showing with the bat let us down meaning Tickhill only had to chase 112, doing so with ease losing only 3 wickets. Improvement needed but the lads will come good!
Our 3rd XI played Penistone on our top pitch. Unfortunately falling just short chasing 161, we lost by 19 runs. A super debut performance by Nadeem Akhtar getting 5 wickets and an attacking 63 by Laurie Brennan weren’t enough for the win.
A depleted VP XI lost heavily to Hathersage. Batting first we were bowled out for 84 and despite a tight and experienced bowling effort Hathersage got home to win by 4 wickets.
The highlight of the Saturday games was undoubtedly our 5th XI’s win over Tideswell. Batting first a superb 50 from youngster Jake Foster and a magnificent 108* from Mick Rowntree saw us reach 178-3 from our 46. This was followed by yet another impressive bowling performance from our youngsters. Lead by James Hall (who is only 17!) the boys bowled Tideswell out for 82 sharing the wickets around.
Hopefully with more players back available next week our results as a whole can make a turnaround! ‪#‎UTC‬
