On a blustery evening at Abbeydale the under 11 blue squad beat Hallam Hurricanes to win the division 3 play off final.
The team that played the final match were Peter Flathers, Matthew Koerner, Samuel Meadows, Tate Miller, Isaac Slack, Isaac Parkin, Adam Beale and Ben Rhodes but in a rain affected season mention must also go to Charlotte Middleton and Joseph Edwards who have played their part in getting to the last stage.
Collegiate lost the toss and were put in to bat which suited us. The first pair, Isaac Parkin and Matt got off to a flying start with great running between the wickets, a fact which received a special mention from Barrie Cox at the awards ceremony. Isaac Slack and Adam batted very sensibly and didn’t lose wickets; Peter and Ben had some difficult bowling to face but still managed to score 22 between them; and Samuel and Tate batted as they have all season fluently and aggressively to finish as a team on 85
The first four overs from Hallam were very aggressive and their openers put on 35. The first wicket fell with a stumping by Matt off Peter’s bowling . The fielding was tight and the team backed each other up well. Adam bowled well and Ben kept the stranglehold with a maiden over .Tate took a wicket with his first ball and Isaac Parkin finished the last over accurately to see the team home with Hallam scoring 68
Thanks must go to Adrian Meadows and Tony Miller who have shared umpiring duties this season and have given guidance to the boys both on and off the pitch. Well done to the team-they have not only won but have also maintained the high standard that was set last year in attitude, hard work and behaviour.
