Ladies team win their first game against Ockbrook & Borrowash Ladies CC

The Women & Girls of Sheffield Collegiate CC, Hallam CC & Transport CC have combined forces and are playing fixtures in both the Derbyshire league and the Northern league division 2. There are fixtures on most Sundays throughout the season. Home games in the Derbyshire league need to be played in Derbyshire and the first home game was played on Sunday at Chesterfield Barbarians Ground.

The visitors were the ladies of Ockbrook and Borrowash, who won the toss and elected to bat. They were soon in trouble against the swinging ball and low bounce. A hatful of wickets fell for not many and  it looked like it was going to be a short game with a beer match to follow (given the ages of the players a lemonade match would have been more appropriate). However, a couple of decent partnerships and some enforced bowling changes saw Ockbrook & Borrowash stagger to 63 all out. Opening bowler Ashleigh Keable returned figures of 7 wkts for 12 runs and as she is eligible to play for U13 yellow squad we are looking to recruit her!

When it was Sheffield Ladies turn to bat we also lost quick wickets being 3 down for 2 runs in the 3rd over. A good partnership from Grace Middleton & Rhianna Fox ,with confident shot making and good running between the wickets, steadied the ship. Grace was then run out attempting a second run which was always going to be tight. Rhianna carried on to a top score of 24 not out and she was ably supported by Lauren before she was out LBW to leave us 5 down. No nerves to get us through the last 8 runs required to win, with Rhianna & Megan Griffiths batting with confidence.

Next match away at Denby CC but as there is also a S Yorkshire U15 District Match where a number our girls will be playing, its all hands to the pump next week.
