I am pleased to report that having won 14 out of 15 regular season games the Under 9s Blue won 2 out of 3 games at Finals Day losing by single figures to Doncaster.
This for some of the players has been the culmination of 3 seasons hard work during which every one of them has improved beyond recognition. The results have inevitably also improved but that is irrelevant at this level. Indeed that is the ethos of almost every club we have shared the enjoyment with over the last 3 seasons.
The SQUAD (note not just 8 players) managed by Richard Thomas and coached by Chris Ash have been a credit to the club. The emphasis has been on enjoyment and improvement but the team themselves have demonstrated a competitive edge whilst playing the game the Collegiate way.
Richard and Chris must take great credit for this. Thanks chaps for an excellent management/coaching combination.
None of the boys have been reduced to tears out for fear of a telling off from their parents or coach when out or when dropping a catch. None of the parents have seen the need to remonstrate with the scorers regarding whether or not you are able to run off a wide. In this instance second is better than that alternative.
Best Wishes to George Ash, Harry Thomas, Robbie McKenna, Satyam Verma and Natty Rotchford as they move up to hard ball. The Under 11s have a treat in store with those guys.
Still available for next season are Finlay Masterson, Alexander Baird, Elliott Renshaw, Jess Priestley and Chloe Jones. Billy Ash has already been signed on a long term deal!
Mention must also go to the players who have represented the Red and Green teams under Jim Lomas and Bernadette Flathers. The teams have improved beyond recognition and have been a joy to coach on Friday nights. Thanks to Jim and Bernadette.
We have had a huge number of players train at the Academy and apologies to those who have not been able to play a match. Any constructive feedback would be welcomed.
Thanks to all the parents who have supported the Under 9s in their cricket this year and to Tom Lister and the coaches who have helped with the teams and the Academy.
Special mention to Julie Lister and her volunteer helpers without whom Junior cricket would not be possible at Abbeydale.
Well done to all who represented or trained with the club at Under9s this season. I think the enthusiasm and smiles on faces suggests you have enjoyed it.
