I am delighted to report that exceeding all expectations under the excellent management of Roger Justin the Under 11s Reds secured the league title losing just one game on the way.
More importantly every member of the squad improved immeasurably during the season, which is testimony to their hard work and willingness to listen to the coaching received. Well done Boys.
Cricket is a simple game often over complicated by coaches. Adhering to three principles (bowl at off stump, try not to lose more than 2 wickets and most importantly enjoy yourselves) the team discovered a winning formula for themselves. I say this because I don’t recall Roger to his great credit using the word “win” at any stage. I do recall him constantly encouraging the lads to enjoy themselves and they certainly did.
In pairs cricket all team members have to contribute consistently to win a league title. Whenever it was needed one of the team would always come up with a match winning performance. This was due to an improvement in their individual games over the season and to a superb team spirit which is every bit as vital in development.
So to Tom Codlin, Oliver Bingham, Theo Constantine, Aaron Justin, Gabriel Anderson, Reece Justin, Adam Plaskitt and Oliver Jones a big well done. You not only improved your individual and team performances but you played the game in the right spirit, a true credit to the club.
Thanks also to the members of Martin Slater’s Under 11s team who stepped in to help out when the team needed it. There are some excellent players in that squad who will be a force to be reckoned with next season if they continue to develop at the current rate.
A big thank you to all the parents, coaches at the Academy and on match nights.
An even bigger thank you to Roger. Well done Sir.
Thanks again to Julie Lister and her team of volunteers who make it all possible.
Most importantly well done again to the boys.
