firsts falter in first round

A mainly first eleven side travelled to Rotherham for the qualifying round of the South Yorkshire Twenty20 at Bawtry Road against Houghton Main.

5 minutes before kick off we had 5 players and no kit. Billy having failed to either be in the correct place to be picked up or to bring the kit! Thanks to Tom Lister for ferrying it over…much appreciated!
We took to the field with 10 men as Joe was en route from Headingley.

The HM openers got off to a bit of a flier after taking a liking to Kam’s military length bowling. Not sure the 11th man would have made a difference unless we’d stationned him on top of the indoor net building! To be fair to Kam he was doing a tough job bowling into a gale.

The introduction of Thommo and Dicko put a different complexion on the game as wickets started to fall regularly as the run rate dropped. The introduction of Joe and Billy saw us further tighten our stranglehold, and a couple of good run outs meant we bowled HM out for 82 in the 20th over.
All of the bowlers save Kam went for around a dozen or so from their 3 or 4 overs and we were pleased with our efforts. Pick being Dicko and his 3-12.

So chasing 82 we knew crease occupation and picking up the singles were the order of the day. Unfortunately nobody actually managed to do this and a regular procession of wickets followed. It was only really Albert who looked like showing the required determination to see us home, but unfortunately he ran out of partners as were bowled out for 65 in the 18th over.
Worth noting that we only hit 2 boundaries in the entire innings.

Overall a pretty poor effort from a side only missing Ed, Nadeem and Grizz from being full strength.

I’ll post a link to the scorecard once its online.
