The Seconds

It has been a long tough season for all who have been playing in the seconds and we are not halfway through.

Being bowled out for 20 odd and losing by houndreds of runs makes it hard to find the motivation to write reports but here goes saturdays.

Houghton Main 200-7
2nds 109 All Out

People ask what is going wrong with the season so far and every week it is basic things that we can control as a team.

With no disrespect to Houghton Main they are a team we should look to, and take, 7 points off but we never looked liked getting them

The day started off very poorly!!! We are a team, we need to warm up as a team, make sure we arrive on time (i know some can’t) and most importantly go out as a team. It sets the right tone for the game. We talk about this every week but it never happens.

To the game. Lobber and Butts opened the bowling without any luck or assistance from the pitch and batting looked easy. Run rate was high too and yet again heads went down when we were looking at having to get 300. Benjy tried but was having the same problems as the openers. A run out gave us our first wicket on about 60 to lift the spirits. When the spinners came on (Waif and Dave Adams) the run rate dropped rapidly. This was because the wicket was hard to score on and also because we were taking wickets (2 to Waif, 3 to Grizz). Luke Bennett took the best caught and bowled i have ever seen! Its was hit as hard as it batsman could, the umpires life flashed infront of his eyes and luke stuck out a hand to save his life! brilliant!
Waif the pick of the bowlers with 15-1-36-2. 250 was about par so we were in with a chance of the first win or picking up some points at least. Rob Jones scored 74 after being dropped on 10. One of the basic problems we have we are a very young team and cant stop the ball or catch it. “Catches win matches”

Spending time at the crease we really important but after 4 overs we were 4-3. This is pretty much how the season has gone so far with Danny and Aj struggling for runs. Ashy and Colton put on some runs batting well together before Ashy was bowled by the left arm spinner. Houghton’s two spinners were the downfall for 7 of us….we need to apply ourselves. 60 not out from Colton was not enough for any points.

Only 3 people in double figures and only one player has got more than 100 runs all season is where we are going wrong.

We can do so much better which is the most frustrating things.

Next week is Wickersley who haven’t been doing great themselves so a chance for our first points!

    Colty,

I speak from experience when I say it is an easy game for the temporarily retired.

I also know how hard it is to play each week in a side which underperforms. A challenge to your teammates there.

Keep up the good work mate.

Keep your nose out Bully! Stick to supermarket run, cutting the grass and washing the cars!
    Well done Colty

we know what you meant Colty, but it does read a bit like you’re suggesting they are a team we should beat.

I think we should practice taking candy off a baby first before progressing to anything more testing.

great knock by the way! Well done

Never used the words “easy 7 pointer”. If we had done things right we could have taken 7 points off them. Dropped the only batsman who looked like scoring on 10. We could have been looking 150…different game then

thanks for doing the report Colton – regarding your comments about the fact you should be beating Houghton Main – can I remind you that they have already beaten Elsecar and Wickersley this season, so not necessairly an “easy 7 pointer”.
