Not the best start…

The 5ths travelled to De La Salle to take on their second team with minimal alterations to the team we started the week with, which makes a pleasant change!
We won the toss and looking at a firm dry pitch and sunny conditions I decided a change of approach to last year was needed and opted to bat, perhaps not my best decision!

Although we were easily beaten by the hot favourites to win the league we showed some positive signs moving forward.

Steve Atherton hit a great 34 with some brilliantly timed shots
Our last minute addition Alex Thomas stepped up to the challenge of opening the batting and looked good
Will Sides did a great job behind the stumps and looked good with the bat.
Tim Pickford looked comfortable with both bat and ball
Ben Woodhead bowled a decent opening spell but could do with some practice with the bat to if he is to live up to his genuine all-rounder claim.
The ever dependable Pete Lister, complete with new batting gloves, coped well against possibly the best bowling attack we are likely to face this season

The rest of us need some net practice, and a couple are in desperate need of a hair cut!

Hathersage away next week.
