SCCC 187-6 (Richards 65, Lister 48) Frecheville 152 all out (Best Root 3-41). The Academy knew that they needed a win to get the season back on track with a couple of defeats and a rained off game in recent weeks and got exactly that.
Sir Alan won the toss and elected to bat, so his apprentices went about making a total that we could defend. His guess before the game was 180 . Tom Lister and Khuram Javed opened the batting and started the innings very solidly on, what turned out to be, a difficult wicket to bat on. Khuram went with the score on 31 which meant Bartles joined Tom. The score ticked along nicely with both playing some great shots before Tommy B was bowled with the score on 73. Lister was then bowled for a well crafted 48. Riaz (65) opened his shoulders up with some brilliant shots all around the ground. Billy Root chipped in with a good 18 and a few others chipped in with a couple of runs. The final score, as predicted by the skipper, was 187 and we thought that would be enough.
Teas are getting better.
Ian Davey and Ben Fielding looked for early wickets but were both unsuccessful due to some solid batting. James Colton was introduced and picked up a wicket, well caught by Tommy SBG Bartles. The Best Root in the family came on to bowl and had all the batsmen in trouble with turn and bounce and not being able to pick the googly. Billy also got a good run out as they decided to take one to him at mid wicket. Riaz bowled 15 quality overs picking up 2 wickets in the process. The wicket of their main batsman went to Tommy Bartles which was brilliantly caught by Danny SBS Belfit standing up to stumps. It was left to Ben Fielding to take the final wicket and the academies season back on track with 7 well earned points.
A big game against Whiston next week, who are top of the table.
